Toby Graham, Top Member of the Cast of Derailed
A perseverant young architect looking to prove himself to his four older brothers. His brothers task him with building a bridge to connect Seagate Village to the outside world. Soon after, Toby finds out this is not going to be an easy feat. He arrives in Seagate Village shocked and unprepared for the challenges ahead. Full of dedication and persistence, Toby does not cower from a challenge. However, he lacks courage and confidence.
Herschel Hale, Seagate’s Least Skilled Worker
A not-so-skilled ice fisherman and goat herder, among other things. Herschel is the first person Toby meets in Seagate Village. In addition, he gives Toby lodging, and sometimes a hard time as well. A native to Seagate Village, he supplies helpful advice and information about the village to Toby. For instance, he informs Toby about the villager, Blair Easton. Herschel tends to focus on how he can take advantage of situations to benefit himself.
Blair Easton, Shunned Architect
The infamous despised architect of Seagate Village. His train bridge failed five years ago, causing a lot of lives and money to be lost in the village. Consequently, Blair lacks hope there could ever be a way to repair his reputation to good standing. He is confined to a wheelchair, and even more confined by his living quarters: an isolate home atop a tall peak.
Kolina Easton, Well-Intentioned Granddaughter
A very giving and kind person. For instance, when she sees Toby’s injury, she stops to help him out. Her compassion towards her grandfather overtakes her level-headedness though. She will stop at nothing to protect her grandfather, Blair Easton, who the villagers repeatedly wrong. Thus, when it comes to Toby, she has a bit of cold shoulder. Kolina needs Toby to leave Seagate Village so he will stop stirring up the past accusations against her grandfather.
Zinka, Runaway Goat
One of Herschel’s mountain goats. Her name is inspired by a very important goat. Derailed’s author, Gabriella, would not be here today if it were not for a real-life goat named, Zinka. During WWII, when Gabriella’s grandfather was little and starving, Zinka miraculously began producing milk again, allowing him to live.
